Confirming that LoGII works fine with wine version 1.7.28. I am using PlayOnLinux with the unsupported installer on Ubuntu 14.04. It launched directly into full screen, full resolution with no problems at all. I was able to create my party and play the game.

Hope this helps some of you.

I rescind my previous comment. The main game runs fine in Wine, but the editor does not. The screen flickers black and I can't click anything. Anyone else have it working?

Update on Wine compatibility:

I did experience a d3d error while it was attempting to load a texture and the game crashed. I was several hours into the game before this happened though.

Can this thread be made a bit clearer as to the fact that it is to do with running the game in Wine under Linux.

Your previous post says you are attempting to install with Wineskin. Have you tried something else, like PlayOnMac with Wine 1.7.28? It may sound strange but I have different results with different software. Codeweavers, Wineskin, Wine, PlayOnLinux/Mac may all yield different results on your system.

Or are you looking for a walk-through to install it?

I created a winskin with wineskin winery using the 1.7.28 engine and the game will not even install into it, it starts to then errors towards the end of the installs. CrossOver does exactly the same. Will try PlayOnMac, will go seek that out now and see how I get on, thanks for that pointer :)

Nope, tried PlayOnMac and it does the same thing just will not install into the wrapper.

Errors encountered torads the end of the install into wrapper.

Unable to execute file Shutdown.
<OK>
Shellexecuteex failed code 2
File not found
<OK>
Runtime error (at 68:445)
<OK>
Runtime error (at 196:799)

And that is it no install.

So, more detail on this: the editor displays 1 frame, then displays sheer black for a while. While it isn't displaying black, I can click on things, but since it's only one frame I need multiple tries. With no dungeon loaded, it displays a frame every 0.3 seconds or so. With standard assets loaded (new dungeon), it takes about 30 seconds to display a frame. If I make a dungeon that doesn't load standard assets, it manages a frame every 0.5 seconds or so. The size of the window does not affect the delay.

Tried virtual desktop and changing Windows version. Made no difference.

edit: decided to try running the editor in virtualbox, but the game crashes on startup complaining about an attempt to compare number with nil in autoDetectResolution in Config.lua.

edit: So this issue also happens in the original Grimrock, but apparently at least one person was able to use the editor. Time to try screwing around with older versions?

I think the problem is the default win64 setup of wine. We need to get a win32 based architecture going. Note you still use x86-64bit version of wine but you set environment variables to trigger a win32 version of wine, a prefix...

I plan to test today. I'll move all my games over to the new profile.
