Do you happen to know if you can change the difficulty setting afterwards? Be it via console command or cfg/ini/savegame editing?

It was not a problem with the difficulty setting. It's correctly set in the savegame. I discovered that Hard was actually not Hard before v2.1.4 so it got fixed and even beefed. In case Geru updated in the meantime he'll notice the difference

Version 2.1.7 atm on hard with only saving at the blue crystals, died 3 times already \o/ so its balanced imo.

Oh and my videos will start to go online in 1,5 hours.
