Door games!
Hayes compatible AT-commands!
UART settings!
Fidonet!
All that information and skills we'll never need again.
Oh well. =)
I ran my own BBS, largely off a single 286 running two nodes. For you young folks, that meant two separate phone lines, just for the BBS use. The same PC I used to code and play games on. Good times..

You can play a remake of the most popular door game, Legend of the Red Dragon or L.O.R.D., here:

Oddly enough, I was never into L.O.R.D myself, but ran a few other doorgames, like some form of RISK and tradewars.. and a couple of my own creations.
The author of L.O.R.D actually made some serious money for it, and later on sold the rights to the game on =) I've been chatting with him randomly..

They were text based (although they were often spiced up with ANSI character graphics) games that you could in play BBSs. They featured large amounts of players in the same "server" and some forms of player interaction like trading, guilds, (asynchronous) PvP combat etc. Along with MUD-games, they were the predecessors to modern MMO-games.

Heh, sounds pretty cool. Interesting to know those kind of games had such early predecessors.

If there was a thing called 'official seal of old schooliness', I'd give it to this thread.

Rather quiet at IRC. I wonder if it'll liven up near the release date..

Might as well jump on and idle there as well... I spent most of my childhood/adolescence on IRC, kind of nice to have a reason to come back.
