May I ask how the implement process for Steam games works?
Did Steam ask you if you want to implement some achievements, or vice versa?

Is the process rather complex or does Steam provide sufficient information regarding the implementation so it's rather easy to work in your code?

Taken from http://www.steampowered.com/steamworks/ ... #Technical:

"2. My game is in early development stages, don't I need to plan for the SDK integration now?
The Steamworks SDK is easy to integrate, so you can wait until your game is further along in the development cycle before worrying about it."

Many achievements are based off of statistics that are already calculated in-game. When a feat is accomplished I'm assuming a check is taken to see if the achievement has already been accomplished and you are either given the achievement or the game just continues as normal.

Implementing the achievements was a very smooth process and took only about 2 days.

I don't know why, but I'm a sucker for achievements, so all the more fun.

That's nice, I love achievements and many others too. If it is not too difficult maybe you can implement more in the future, maybe in the next DLC/expansion :D

I kick it old school in the sense that I like games without achievements. You knew how good you were when you played it or when people watched you play. I don't need no stinkin' e-chievement to let everyone know that I am the same as everyone else who probably stopped specifically to get that achievement too.

it is more a comparison with other players worldwide
On Steam you can see how many other users as achieved the achievment.

Which is actually always depressing, as there are always people far better (or with far more time to waste) than you.

Personally, I never really got the whole e-chievement thing, especially for obscure things. I mean, I can understand in-game unlockables, even if they're of the 'and your reward is clothes!' variety, but not just a pop-up that pats you on the back for a job well done. Its like... a sinister ninja version of web-advertising... or something.
