Alright, thanks for the feedback!

How about the length? This one is about 5 minutes, is that too short? It is very minimal, but a player might hear too much repetition after a while?
I guess it depends on the size of the level (assuming this would be used for a single level)

cheers,

Roland

I'm not sure how the original game ambients work, but I'm sure they just loop over and over. It can't have any really attention grabbing or loud unique parts because then when it loops over and over those parts WOULD start to stand out and perhaps become annoying. If everything is kept subtle then the player doesn't really notice the specifics and it works well looped.

ok, so I guess a 10 minute piece would probably work better, even though this is very minimal I can still imagine that 5 minutes isn't enough.

I guess its something that needs to be tried out, feel free to use it in any of your mods (naturally) and see if it works or not. I'll be working on some new stuff and I'll try to make it a bit longer, just to be on the safe side.

cheers,

Roland

This is great, and very generous of you! I'm getting a 404 error though, atm...although I'm sure that's because you're adding awesome sauce to it.

hey there,

indeed, I had uploaded .wav file of the track, but have since replaced it with an mp3 version:

enjoy ;)

actually I think the original stuff is shorter than 5 min, maybe to conserve memory or something, but they still worked fine because they're almost below the conscious level. Maybe they can be very long, I really don't know. Maybe the devs can answer that for us at some point

Well, just as an experiment, I've just finished a 10 minute track:

http://soundcloud.com/ambientbeast/grimrock-part-2

As Dark Ambient goes, things need to be long and winded, so this is, again, long and sparse, with a few small details in there to sometimes grab attention, but, hopefully, not disturb any gameplay.

Please tell me what you think.

cheers,

Roland

definitely worthy of inclusion! I imagine that there might be a few players/authors who could consider it too techno/synth sounding at moments, but I think most people will like it.

These are just some experiments, I'll try and post some more varied stuff in the future. I'm pretty busy with my dayjob though, so I can't tell you when it'll happen ;)

The first one seems to fit perfectly for my necropolis level.. I'll give it a try!
