Eww no, sorry, heavy metal is a complete fourth wall moment. I imagine anything recognisable as a film would sound odd - the current Grimrock ambient/background score quite suits the creepy/desolate/dank/lonely/oppressive vibe (delete as appropriate) and sucks you right in. I've always thought with this kind of 'Dark Ages' or even medieval feel RPG, less is more in terms of music (not as in amount but in overdone versus subtlety).
The composer that did the soundtrack for Hitman would be a masterstroke...powerful and epic feeling.
Overall the main theme of Grimrock is lovely - Powerful, cinematic and intrepid with an undercurrent of poignancy.
Incidentally, I'm getting a similar RPG for my 3DS soon, The Dark Spire - brilliant score but I feel it is a little fast. The space between notes is as important as the notes themselves - as Brian Eno & Jean Michel Jarre know to great effect.

You... know...
Realms of Arkania???
So glad to hear it!
I am an RoA fanatic. I threw together a
Realms of Arkania Facebook page; also have a
Realms of Arkania eGroup/Yahoo Group that has been around since 1999. (The files section has all kinds of patches, and DOSBOX config to make the games run on modern systems!) And the series I write,
Neverending Nights is full of RoA references (like the main sword is called 'The Blade of Destiny' - there's a mention of 'Star Trail' in there!) My D&D character(s) were named things like Thorwalian (if they were barbarians/fighters) for the longest time; and when the one I had played for a long time perished, his brother sought vengeance - and his brother, was of course, named Riva Startrail.
So while we may not agree on the occasional metal (especially during a fight that you have done repeatedly; since LoG is not a very forgiving game!) - I sometimes need that extra boost of aggression. And Savatage is chalk full of 'D&D' type songs (from their older CDs, from Hall of the Mountain King, Legions, Sirens, Dungeons Are Calling, etc etc) - we at least agree on the awesomeness of Realms of Arkania.

I bought it on GoG but was unable to get into it, I spent an entire evening just trying to make my characters! (I do like complexity)

Aha...I bought RoA III in the orig. card box for 'IBM PC' (you know the game is classic if it has that sticker on!)

Oh yeah I like Rock or metal, though I'm more AC/DC than Slayer or whatnot, if you gather...I'm not an aggressive player at all - I'm a creeper/thinker due to being a #1HandGamer (Twitter) since 20 (Right hand only post-stroke)

Nice! Alas I didn't get a PC till the late 90's, before then I had, Sinclair ZX80, Commodore Vic 20, BBC Master, Spectrum +2a, Amiga 1200, NES, SNES, Gameboy, Playstation, N64. So I was quite late to the PC as a gaming system! The Amiga did share many similar games though so I played the EoB's, DM, Ishar games etc on it.
Daniel.

Aye, same here... I was already a huge SIR-TECH fan because of Wizardry... so when the released ROA, I was all over it.

Good music adds a great filmic atmosphere to procedings...think of the great OST CD you get with Realms of Arkania III...
