What does this do that a wall opened with a button doesn't? There's that one puzzle in the 2nd level of EOB that did it well with the runes of passage and aside from that I can't think of a good use anywhere.Thels wrote:It can indeed be overdone, and bumping into every wall is not really that fun. However, this can be solved by:Disasterrific wrote:I'm not that excited about this. Unless there is also a "true seeing" spell that would highlight suspicious walls, this just means having to bump into every wall of the game. Is that fun? I would say okay for very limited use and for some specific puzzles, but on the whole fake walls seem a bit cheap.
- Use them only at suspicious locations, like dead ends that not contain anything.
- Include notes with hints.
- A "True Seeing" spell.
- Having a character speak up when you pass by an illusionary wall. Perhaps a certain level in a skill is required for this.

Following your logic, what use does it have to have the switch, chain, large button and small button to open doors, when they all do the same? Why not remove all chains, large buttons and small buttons and replace them by switches?
Illusionary walls actually aren't the same thing at all. They don't open and close, so you could be able to throw stuff though. What about a puzzle where you have to throw stuff through an illusionary wall to make a pit go away? You cannot do that with a switch.
Re: Illusionary Walls Are Go!
Darklord: Do these illusionary walls block light? IE, say I have a room that is not illuminated, with an illusionary wall with a torch behind it. Would the torchlight be visible in the room, or would the wall block it?
Re: Illusionary Walls Are Go!
Yeah the wall looks as solid as ever, it just allows you to walk through it. So light sources on the other side would be fine.

So we can't use a torch to give it away. That's a bit of a shame. Then again, it would probably look really weird if it would.Darklord wrote:Yeah the wall looks as solid as ever, it just allows you to walk through it. So light sources on the other side would be fine.

Do missiles work? Perhaps we can use those snowball spitting gargoyles to give them away.
Re: Illusionary Walls Are Go!
Well illusionary walls didn't show light in the older games either so this is probably for the best for those wanting to create fan mods.Thels wrote:So we can't use a torch to give it away. That's a bit of a shame. Then again, it would probably look really weird if it would.

Not tried a missile, should work I think!

These will with 100% certainty be abused to the point of players wishing modders being burned alive in fire.
Missiles and monsters moving through the walls can be used as clues.

It is just an option that can be used or misused like any other option out there.Ixnatifual wrote:These will with 100% certainty be abused to the point of players wishing modders being burned alive in fire.
People that make crappy dungeons by littering them with illusionary walls will probably still make crappy dungeons if they can't use illusionary walls.
People that make dungeons that are fun to play when this option is not available, won't suddenly turn their dungeon into crap by adding illusionary walls everywhere.
Re: Illusionary Walls Are Go!
Dungeons that may have been passable without this feature could become horrible with its addition. And they possess unmatched aggravation potential and are likely easy as Hell to put in. I'm not advocating its removal, though. Just saying it's going to be horribly abused in some mods I agree having more options is a great thing.
