Try using an earlier version of Proton.
I have to use 4.11-13
Newer versions don't work for me.

Ah, good to know! In that case i can reproduce your error when going with "Proton Experimental" in Steam settings.

Now if i pick a different version i.e. "Proton 7" LoG2 starts up so Zo Kath Ra's advice is sound.

Yesterday I tried to play on versions 4.11 - 13 and 7, there are no more errors, but the game itself does not start either.
After pressing "play" the button changes to "stop", thinks a little and returns to "play"

You prolly ment grimrock.cfg but that won't fix this problem.

I've tried to run LoG2 using Steam + Proton on several Linux distributions and found that the results vary a lot. Worst was Debian who could not start the game with any version of Proton available in Steam, seeing the exact same behavior as Mikali. Best was the latest Mint release who managed to run the game using Proton 7.x and older. Other releases managed to run the game with rather old releases i.e. Proton 4.x but failed with newer versions.

I have Linux Mint 20.3 Una Cinnamon 5.2.7.
An interesting fact is that on the same system the game worked well, but "bang" and at some point an error (

I had the Xubuntu 22.04 LTS and when I face the same problem I delete grimrok2.log and the game starts and work perfect
