You can fight in the dark. Heck I did large areas in my play through with no lights. So I don't see the mage flashlight as a big helping the party.

But that aside if hes not doing anything during the fight but sitting on his magey but hes not really 'learning' anything now is he? At lest give that man a spear or a rock an extra attacker can only help things.

In simpler terms since your a little bit crazy, everyone is NEEDED to kill a monster quickly without death or serious injury, so of course those who help kill the monster get EXP. It isn't based off of damage, from what I understand, its based off of if you contributed to kill the monster, and if you die during the fight then you receive none. If a party member is standing about then they will not receive participation experience, simple as that.

Simpy contributing to the fight nets you experience points, its not based off of damage as it is helping kill a monster. Remember, your a team, you wouldn't let your buddy kill off all the dudes in a room by himself, would ya'?

While I would tend to agree for the most part. Passive spellcasting would be an unfair advantage to a mage and no doubt be subject to level grinding. No system is perfect, in fact I think Sykrim's levelling is terrible, I was able to grind like 10 levels just using two spells within 15 minutes (telekinesis was one of them).

What do you do in the University?
You watch and listen for the most part, according to you that's not a learning process. Good luck with the world...

Everybody fights in my party.
2 fighters in front
2 mages in back
Kill monsters as fast as possible.

My mages always have some sort of melee weapon in one hand, usually a spear as bows and slings require 2 hands to use.
Mana runs dry it's time to get your hands dirty boys.

Mages don't hit very well with spears past Dungeon Level 4 or so.
