Its really weird, one of those things youd have to look at the code itsself to figure out
Along with the ...
Level and two buttons puzzle on level5, SO MANY CONFLICTING BELEIFS !

I was unable to unlock it until I had a certain weapon from a nearby room.

Never managed to open it, never tried the Fighter's Challenge
Maybe the devs someday clarify what you have to do. The GameBanshee tip didn't work for me.

Hi there,
For me, the door opened when I came back with the Sword of Nex equipped. Maybe it's not a matter of equipement, but rather of Attack Power ?
The Sword of Nex is the most powerful sword one can have at this point of the game, so maybe it raises the attack power enough to actually open the gate. Maybe coming back from further levels with a more powerful weapon would work as well.
Like coming back from the Vault with Dismantler.
It would explain why fuzbaul managed to get through with two swords equipped, and not only the Sword of Nex.

Thats actually a very interesting theory, almost a sort of "Test your might!" to enter challenge, before the actually challenge.

I tested this today and you need
the Fire sword and the sword of nex in one of your char's inventories for the door to open.
I had the dismantler and the fire sword and it didn't open. as soon as i took the nex along it opened
You might also just need the nex to do it, nut sure

Well I don't even use swords on my fighter(I Like to wack stuff with my maul ) And I couldn't get in without having the sword of nex in my party inventory. I did have the sword of flame in possession to, so Don't know if that is a req or not, but Sword of Nex definitely is. I droped it on the floor before walking down the stairs and Door didn't open, walked back up, grabed it, and went down... door opens

where is the sword of flame on this level? i found another one
on level 13 but it was one of those treasury rooms where u can only open one of 3 doors and the flame sword was not on my priority list
i came all the way back to this door because i didn't open it before. i have the sword of nex already.

i don't use swords so i probably saw it but didn't think twice about picking it up
besides,
there's fireballs pelting me repeatedly lol. i went in, saw the scroll, then reloaded my previous save
