Also drop all armor that has any sort of evasion penalty, even if it doesn't show any snail icon, you're still slowed down if say a mage carries a piece of heavy plate armor. Just drop everything, run around naked, and you'll go fast enough.

Im almost certain that this statement is false. speed is the same ALL THE TIME, unless you are encumbered.

My experience says it's not the same speed. Remember that trap later on where you need to
walk through a blinking teleporter
? Impossible without dropping gear.

Blinking teleporter? the one with the opening/closing pit right next to it?... passed with without dropping a single gram to the ground.

If you mean the one on 9, I did it without dropping gear
