Here is a save method I have used for years:

Save at start of each new level - (can replay later to find hidden secret you missed, etc)
(example: Level 2 - ent)

Saves I reuse over & over (overwrite)
Last - (When exiting game for awhile)
Battle - (When an obvious tough battle is ahead)
Door-Trap - (When jacking around with door or trap that is an unknown)

Keeps for clean saves that helps me remember whats what.

So my saves end up looking like:
Last
Battle
Door-Trap
Level 4 - Ent
Level 3 - Ent
Level 2 - Ent
Level 1 - Ent
LoG Survivor!!
Surviving Party: Mino - Fighter, Liz - Rogue, Insect - Mage, Human - Rogue

I myself use a 5 game save rotating system, I save after every major encounter or after clearing out an area and standing in front of the door to the next section or stairs down.
...And that's all I have to say about that.

haaha Wow you really are a save bitch. At least you are having fun!

I tried to do just the opposite; I started off never saving (just clicking on the crystals) but after my third or fourth time going back to that room with 5 spiders in it just to die all over again I said "screw this!" and started saving every time I got creamed in a battle and knew I would have to try quite a few times.

I'm glad that crystals save the game so that "hard core" players can try to go through the whole dungeon without saving. In fact I kinda wish "No Saving" was an option to check along with "No Mapping" at the beginning of the game. If I decide to give the game a second go I think I will try it without saving, it should be easier now that I am better at fighting and I know which character builds are better than others.

I keep saving when something of note happens, mainly because my first few hours of play were fraught with blackscreen crashes.

They keep getting named things like F3-Spinning portals, and F2 GUYS CHASING YOU
So I can remember what things I was on.
Query: How big is your savegame folder now? In terms of MB?

Im with the op just finshed lvl 4 and im maxed out, walk 2 foot that's a save, scary sound effect save it! mine range from a panicked 'adafafaf' quick save and the 'Oh crap' 'trouble' 'not again' file names :P

I had 2 party members go down at the begining of lvl 3 and the saves went through the roof, open gate swing sword, Close gate 'save' rinse and repeat for about 10mins all was well untill a mob snuck up on me.

If only there was a cowardly lion class, atleast i could rp well.
