nvidia gpu vs intel integrated chip.. nvidia not playable.

Post by Crise »

So I just realised Grimrock wasn't using my nvidia GPU (GeForce GT 540M) at all... so I made the switch.

However, contrary to my expectations... with intels integrated chip (3000HD or something along those lines) the game ran fine for several hours in one sitting no problems. When using nvidia, however, within first 15 minutes I was having severe fps drop, and general lack of responsiveness.

Not to mention my fans where really getting a workout.

Do you have vsync turned on? If you haven't then try that.

I suspect your GPU gets too hot and the system then clocks it down to prevent overheating (therefore the fps drop), so this would be basically the same problem that some other people have when they have vsync turned off.

I had it "enabled" but pushing it to "triple buffering" did the trick.
