Killing with doors?
Firstly. WOW, what an great game this is. All my DM and CSB memories came flooding back when I sat down for an hour play last night. A big WELL DONE from me to the whole Dev team. I've already bought this as a gift for a friend who also used to play DM/CSB/Captive on his ST many years ago.
I've got one small issue though:
In Dungeon Master and Chaos Strikes Back it was possible to kill creatures by luring them into doorways and then closing the door on them. Sometimes they'd just stand and take it, other times they'd walk off. It really helped with the larger creatures like Dragons or when you faced a group of 4 monsters.
In LoG I can't seem to trap anything in a doorway.
I think this has something to do with the granularity of movement within a tile. LoG appears to force creatures into a single tile and doorways seem to me to be between two tiles and are not a tile space themselves. In DM and CSB (small) creatures could move within one tile (any one of the quarters of the square or even the centre) and doorways were a tile space, or part tile space, allowing them to be trapped under/between the door, portcullis etc
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to trap creatures this way?
(Yes, I know LoG isn't DM/CSB and therefore has it's own game rules...it's just that everything else seemed so similar that I thought I'd be able to drop doors on peoples heads...)

Re: Killing with doors?
Nope, can't be done, for exactly the reasons you noted.

Re: Killing with doors?
Thanks Gambit. I'll stop trying then
Re: Killing with doors?
Can't be done.
However, what can be done is using the door as a way to only be exposed to the enemy when your attacks are ready. So open, hit, hit, hit, hit, close.
Also, some enemies walk away from the door when it is closed. Open, throw/shoot/spell, close. Rinse, repeat, profit.

Re: Killing with doors?
And some enemies can open doors too.
Re: Killing with doors?
I discovered today that if you fall and land on something you instantly kill it. I did this with an ogre on level 6 or 7 after falling through a hole in the floor.

You even get an achievement. Same for teleporting into something.Sarcasmo wrote:I discovered today that if you fall and land on something you instantly kill it. I did this with an ogre on level 6 or 7 after falling through a hole in the floor.

Re: Killing with doors?
Doors can be used to ease any fight.
Although I was bit disheartened that killing enemies by jumping on them or killing them with traps didn't get me experience points.
I had to help one trap fight by dropping skellies to dungeon and later kill one with a supermario jump, but I accidentally killed the four men group,
so I decided to load as that was a lot of exp lost.
SpoilerShow
Open door, cast poison cloud, close door. ^-^
Works best with portcullis as the enemy seems to keep the aggro.

Some enemies are even able to attack you through a portcullis, so watch out.SodanKerjuu wrote:Doors can be used to ease any fight.Although I was bit disheartened that killing enemies by jumping on them or killing them with traps didn't get me experience points.SpoilerShowOpen door, cast poison cloud, close door. ^-^

Make sure the door is all the way open before you try to attack (you'll just miss) or cast a spell (you'll hit yourself instead). The door needs to be about MOST of the way open before you can attack. If you play with the timing you can pull the chain right as they attack and pull it again after then attack again.
