... it reminds me a lot of the mountain in Grimrock 1. It even has 13 levels... plus a small chamber below everything.
Is there anything people have figured out from the runes maybe how it ties to the story of the first game?

I already saw that thread. And just reread it to see whether i missed something - nobody is talking about the mountain sketch in there?

The mountain sketch is there to indicate a link between Grimrock and the Isle of Nex. The nature of that link is all speculation at this point, but the sketch also gives you everything you need to create a key in order to translate the following page to find a secret that further illustrates the link between the two places.
