The Shadowkeeper - another grid based dungeon crawler

Post by Kukulcan »

Being in so great company I though I present our own game in development - The Shadowkeeper. As this is a LoG forum I think I start with things where we stray away from the pure doctrine:

- It is developed with mobile in mind (iOS) and we have a deferred rendering engine that does soft shadows on high end devices (iPhone 5S /iPad Air and up). Light and darkness will play a role in the game.
- The fighting is somewhat inspired by Dark Meadow (real time guesture controlled, no sidestep dancing, probably a similar distant weapon approach). We think about a 3rd person view when entering close combat.
- Puzzles will be rather not heavily switch/trapdoor/teleporter based (less timed puzzles also), rather think of Lands of Lore more story heavy
- Set in medieval South England it will be slightly more on the "realistic" side (surroundings/monsters) but with a more fantastic parallel world - the Shadowkeepers Lair. Switching between worlds will of course make quite some puzzles.
- We unfortunately don't have the talented 3D artists of Almost Human, so we will depend heavily on bought and altered content. But the amount of monsters and props in the game will actually pretty high.
- Dungeons, forests, cities, castles and graveyards. It actually starts with Zombies but really isn't a Zombie game.
- We set out to make every corner look individual so you don't need a map to know where you are (though it will have one)
- Party of 3 or 4 fixed characters you'll meet throughout the game (again due to lack of 3d artist)
- Not a loot game. Lots of progression by improving skills and weapons, but number of items/weapons will rather be limited.
- We might have stuff like auto-item-collecting and might omit the DM throwing mechanics
- Partice fire and fog + Ambient Occlusion for eerie look

Two man team, Andreas, who already ported EotB to iOS just for fun and me, game designer who is the biggest of all Dungeon Master fans ;)

In development for a few years already, we hope to release a prologue Episode 2015/1016 but real life often gets in the way, so no promises made.

Some random ingame/concept stuff (as said we are for now a little impaired on the art side):

That looks quite impressive (and like a TON of work!), I wish you the best and hope to see a finished project one day! :)
