Too high system requirements?

Post by Fnord »

I think you might have put a slightly too high system requirement in place. My system is just bellow what should be able to handle the game (have a GeForce 8600 GTS, but only 256mb VRAM, and a single core Intel Pentium 4 3ghz processor), and I'm able to run the game on the highest setting, for everything but shadows, at a solid 45+ FPS.

Better be safe than sorry, right? And some parts of the game might be more taxing than others.

Still, good to know.

There definitely is wiggle room in the specs but the system requirements we have in place are what we can try to guarantee to work and what we can commit on supporting.

Definitely a bit of slowdown with 5+ torches in the same room!

It is good that you did not promise that the game would run on any old machine (that has happened in the past to me, where games have had min reqs that simply were unrealistic in how low they were), but you might have given it a bit too much wiggle room here :P Your game seems to be really well optimized, judging by how well it runs on this old thing. Yes I noticed the slight framerate drop when there were a lot of torches on screen at the same time, but it still stayed well within playable levels.

I'm running it on a 13" MacBook Pro (Mid 2009), 2.53GHz, 8GB ram, Nvidia 9400M 256mb/512mb (OS X I think reports 256 and WinXP 512), Windows XP and it runs well at 1280x800.

Hmm, let me define well the hardware test a high details was 14fps. If I turned off SSOA I get 26 fps. Running the game for 3 hours last night that was fine (running Fraps just to see what the framerate did), so rooms I was getting upto 40-45fps and some (like the room with the statue face the needs gems in lvl 1) with multiple torches dropped the framerate down to 16-20 fps but it soon increased once I picked the torches up :)

A bit? These torches are killing my framerate like hell...
