neo-goth industrial set and more
Re: neo-goth industrial set and more
Uhm...sorry mate, but not sure what I did wrong. I never said I'd tell anyone (I'm certainly not an e-lawyer), personally I don't care what you do and Bethesda has more than enough money for sure (plus they don't even lose any money). But many of those models are very easily recognizable for anyone who ever played Bethesda RPGs (I can recognize those Shivering Isles mushroom trees from miles away, same is true for the Fallout 3 machinery) and it's only fair if you tell people who make use of those assets what they actually use. Maybe here no one but me did notice it, but as soon as someone releases a mod with your assets on Nexus or the Workshop you can be sure lots of people will notice it. And I can tell from experience (I was a very dedicated modder of Beth games for 5+ years) that people are very eager to report mods like that.
Now imagine someone puts possibly hundreds of hours of work into a mod and decides to use a lot of your assets for various dungeon levels in his mod. And then he releases it and it inevitably gets removed from public sites like Nexus and the Workshop because of him using ripped assets without even knowing it. It's not like you can easily replace assets in a Grimrock mod, especially if you used them all over the place and planned your whole level layout with them in mind. Do you think that's fair? I don't.
I can promise you that this is the only place where I will ever talk about this issue. I don't care about Bethesda, they swim in money and you don't take anything away from them anyway. But I think it's only fair if people know what they use in their mods.

Looks like this happened already.Phitt wrote:Now imagine someone puts possibly hundreds of hours of work into a mod and decides to use a lot of your assets for various dungeon levels in his mod. have it your way, shop closed and bye bye
Re: neo-goth industrial set and more
thats quite sad. Nobody was blaming you for nothing, so I do not understand your reactions. I think you have to realize that similar issue was already here for Log1, where Leki used some textures and somebody reported his mod and it was pull down from nexus. Not a big issue, but I think evewrybody who is using assets from some other game need to count with something like that (not saying you are, as I am not aware of these games, altough these mushrooms are similar to me from Morrowind). Well... hope you will be still around.

Re: neo-goth industrial set and more
project currently on hold due to reconstruction, will continue soon with a few rules implemented:
sugestions, criticism, and requests are welcome and needed for improvements, on the other hand asking retorical questions to which
people already know the answer to. are not appreciated...plain and simple
content will return in shortly with apt disclaimer and proper warning as some apparently found bother with my work so far

I do have a suggestion...
A nice big statue of Odin, showing his Balls
And don't sweat the responses where people find something wrong with your published work. It's a typical attitude where "art" is involved, and even worse when dealing with techy stuff. Nerd rage is a fierce force on the Webs. And if you mix nerd rage with art? YIKES!
Just drop a link to a Nexus Mods search result for Bethesda and be done with it. As long as you give a general recognition to any source or inspiration you are fine. This tileset is badass and I absolutely need it for my Mod!

So the pic of your Avatar on this forum is of a cute little monkey. Is that your monkey? Did you take that picture yourself? Do you have permission to use that picture? Did you cite the source of that picture?
Monkeys everywhere may be offended by any undocumented use of their brethren.
Speaking of... I love monkeys and would love a new Grimrock asset that involves a monkey in some capacity.
Re: neo-goth industrial set and more
This isn't true. The Elder Scrolls assets are not under a Creative Commons license or anything similar; under U.S. law (which seems to be what Nexus aims for) you can't use them at all except as specifically permitted by Bethesda and fair use. No fair use laws apply here. If anything, acknowledging the source would make Nexus remove it faster.Azel wrote:Just drop a link to a Nexus Mods search result for Bethesda and be done with it. That said, the 3D models in question are simple geometric shapes, so it's not difficult to make new ones from scratch that are stylistically similar but not infringing, in which case they would be your own intellectual property and you could do whatever you want with them.
It's not a matter of offending people. It's a matter of possibly having the files removed from the Web, and possibly even getting your ass sued by the copyright holder.Azel wrote:So the pic of your Avatar on this forum is of a cute little monkey. Re: neo-goth industrial set and more
I think I explained very well why it can become quite a problem for every single modder who wants to release a mod publicly and makes use of these assets without knowing they're ripped from (even very popular) commercial games. This did happen before multiple times already, so it's not a theoretical thing at all (someone wrote it even happened with a Grimrock 1 mod, I don't know anything about that though).Azel wrote:So the pic of your Avatar on this forum is of a cute little monkey.[...]
Also, adorning yourself with borrowed plumes is not the best possible behavior in my book. And what comes next? Advocating piracy? Those idiotic, narrow-minded copyright holder nerds, to hell with them.
But I'm certainly not here to start a discussion about what's right and what's wrong. Do what you like, just make sure people know what they're getting into. I have said everything there is to say. I like this forum for the intelligent and polite behavior of its members, I hope it stays that way.
