How can I open this door on level 7 (accessed via a secret path down from level 6)

In the Halls of Fire, at the level's west end, you'll solve a puzzle (described at our walkthrough page) to get across a pit. At the demon statue, turn north and walk to a dead end. Scan the wall there for a runic symbol - press it and a hidden door will be revealed. Entering the door, which leads to the Fighter's Challenge, counts as a secret.

fighter's challenge door on level 7, but how do you open the actual fighter's challenge door, the wooden one next to the text saying "Fighter's challenge"?

Okay, so on Level 6 I found the secret stairs behind a rune activated wall which led to a door called the fighter's challenge, it was closed and I couldn't figure out a way to open it.

After clearing the level and searching every wall in the place I caved and googled the answer and found out I needed to proceed to level 7 first. Fair enough.

I've now cleared level 8 and gotten the Dismantler and the door to the challenge still shut when I head back up there.

Any advice? I don't want to go too far ahead as I want this to actually be, well, a fighting challenge!

Thats interesting I just returned from level 9 and it happened to be open to me. It may be linked to more than just where you are?

It might be that im crazy but i think it opened for me when i got the sword of nex from the pit puzzle on the same level

I have the sword of nex but the door remains closed.

I had the same problem.

I played around and wend all the way back and got the Treasures up to this point. when i got back the door open up for me. Not sure if that's the reason but its worth a try.
Other then that i got the nex sword on my 2nd visit but as you got the already that cant be it...
I had the fire sword on my first try so that cant be it either...

and btw its a really hard battle, well it was for me.

Try to get to one of the corners asap. that way only one of your ppl in the back row can be attacked, even when the first one dies. And do make healing potions up front.
