vital = extremely important

I personally feel that potions are extremely important. Agree that there is an exaggeration using the word "vital" but if it gives Dr. Diarrhea another chance to follow me in to a thread with hopes of derailing the topic in an effort to save what little dignity he has left... I'm just gonna keep saying it: Potions are Vital in Grimrock :P

And actually, one can simply ask: is it possible to get through the entire game of Grimrock without ever drinking a single potion? I argue that the answer is, No. Thus, potions are in fact, vital. DISCUSS OMG!!

In theory, yes you can get through the entire game without drinking a single potion of any type. In practice though... Highly doubtful, and that's pretty hardcore in my opinion.

Highly doubtful? Not at all.
I already did it twice without alchemy and other restrictions and still had potions left in the end.

if you are saying that you had potions left at the end, that just means you drank only some instead of all. Which means the moment you drank some you just proved the point that it is not feasible to go the entire game without drinking any. Just because you had some left over doesn't mean you didn't drink the ones you drank haha.

drinking less than max doesn't mean you drank 0, and we are talking about how infeasible it is to drink 0. In other words, Math.

He said without using potions, not without using alchemy. Of course it's easy to win without using alchemy. Your inventory screenshots show way fewer potions than exist in the game so it looks an awful lot like you did, in fact, drink potions, unless you deliberately dropped all but one rage potion for some reason?

I agree that winning a solo character without drinking any potions at all is probably easy too, but man, you could at least actually do it before you try to brag about it!

What the hell is wrong with you guys? How do you keep reading stuff i never said? Where did i say i drank no potions?!?

Using no potions was not a goal in my solo runs. Their goal was no companions no alchemy and no magic in the 1st run. It's even no magic in the 2nd depending how one classifies Shield spell. Any potions that got used during the runs were for either strategy or convenience so I still had a good bunch left in the end. Now after doing those runs I know that going without potions is definetly possible because i know where i needed some and how to get around it. It's a matter of character/party building and strategy.

I never brag about something i never did. I'll think about doing a no-potions run and if it's just to teach our "it's not feasible" potion guzzling forum troll a lesson. Maybe with a wizard? heh that sounds like fun :twisted:

FYI, NO ONE said that you claimed to have not drank potions, they pointed out that the run you did that you were using as evidence that you can do a run without drinking a single potion of any sort was completely invalid for making that point since you DID drink potions in that run. It also doesn't matter if you can do it or not since we ALL have said that it IS possible, just that it makes things harder than they need to be. Pay a little more attention to what people are saying and you might actually be on the same page as everyone else.

But you did brag about it.

Here I posed the scenario of going through the game WITHOUT drinking ANY potions, healing, energy, stat, anti-venom, antidote, rage, shield, etc. To which you respond with "I already did it twice..." then in the same sentence you finish with "...and still had potions left in the end." So in the same breath you bragged about doing it when you hadn't and took it back to claim to have done something that wasn't even related to the scenario presented.

Would you PLEASE re-read my entire sentence so you DO grasp it's context?
