Herder's Den ate my Shuriken

Post by Azel »

Just got my Ratling Farmer to level 20 after a few days of pharming the Herder's Den. After walking the entire area to collect the last few throwing weapons I am missing 2 Shuriken and 2 Knives. I have literally looked everwhere; kinda sad. Wish there was a way to Highlight weapons or something

I'm pretty careful about picking up my stuff like that after each encounter, and I'm pretty sure once a knife was lost, so I suspect a rare bug. But I could be mistaken.

Given that you did not throw your weapons while moving you should find them all. Some of them might have landed on the edge of a blocker so you'll have to pick them up manually; i had that a few times here and there.

Now what i suspect (can't prove yet) to happen is that when a weapon is thrown while moving and it kinda travels along the edge of the tiles it "bypasses" things that normally block it. This might lead to weapons flying into unreachable areas. I had one or two occasions in the Bog where a throwing knife traveled past some blocking bushes/tree and i had to walk around/past them to get my knife back.

On certain tiles like outdoor forest shrub/tree tiles (my own experience), thrown weapons can land in one square further than the square the hit or miss took place in, which (I think) has to do with hit calculations applied to mobs walking onto that tile.
This can result in thrown weapons drooping into the impassable tiles and become unpickable.

Can confirm happend to me also once.
(Infact, sounds like the problem "engine is not FPS independent" in Log1 was not fixed for Log2)

Yeah I literally walked in every single square, performed a 360 check, marked the location on the map, and repeated for every square in the Den. It was a lot and tedious so maybe I skimmed over a few locations and missed my chance. My eyes start to cross after my first full pass, so I said fuck it and used the console to Spawn only the 2 missing items. Feel bad for resorting to the console but oh well, I really wanted my 2 Shuriken back :x

I think this is a fully legitimate use of console, don't feel bad.

In a very few occasions you can also lay an item "into" the model of a blocker. So it seems to disappear but it's only "inside" of an obstacle, you can take it back (if you know, where to klick...) .

I wouldn't find it unnatural to skip the Den until later in the game. I skipped the entire bog, and might go to it when I'm done with the Sewers.
