Underwater area ?

OK, so Legend of Grimrock II has an underwater area, so I was wondering if somewhere in the game there is something that aids staying under water longer, a potion, a mystical water staff, item of clothing etc.

At the moment it seems to me to be a mad dash around and die experience.

There is nothing that prevents your party from coming to the surface to breathe air. If you want to explore the underwater areas (which is not uninteresting), you have to find a way to come up from time to time.

I assume by that you mean dashing from ladder to ladder ?
