Climbing down stairs

Is there any way of climbing down stairs without plummeting down? You can click the stairs to climb up and sit on the top before going all the way up. I haven't found way of climbing down stairs that is as elegant. I really don't see a difference from taking stairs down as opposed to just jumping of the ledge anywhere else. Perhaps I'm missing something?

According to what was said by the developers in a live interview some days ago, it's not possible to climb down ladders, as you may simply jump down, which also happens to be faster.

That may be true.

You can always turn around and jump butt first as if you were climbing down, buuut I guess that wouldn't be the same.

A quick fix would be that the party doesn't make a plummeting sound when dropping down stairs.

It would be nice to have an option to initiate a climb down animation.

Maybe we'll see this when its actually necessary on long stairs where falling down them would hurt you.

But with the stairs in this game being always short it seems to make more sense to just hop down.
