Mage Character starting with Water magic

Post by VisualDeadlock »

I kind of thought that if you started a mage character, and chose one of the spell schools, the first scroll that drops would be for that school. However, I started a battlemage with 1 point in water and in concentration, but the first scroll I found was still Fireburst. So, my BM is kind of useless until he is able to find a water magic spell scroll (unless I trial and error or look it up)?

I did a similar thing with my first play, the problem is: all water magic spells need at least a point in another element to be cast, so yes you have to wait till level 2 to be able to cast something.
Unfortunatly I don't remember where I found the first water magic scroll.

Sadly LoG has never been kind to wizards.

Scrolls are statically place around the levels regardless of your party build or skills. But the flip side is you don't need the scrolls to learn magic just the skills and foreknowledge of the patterns needed.

What this does is make peoples first play through a little frustrating for mage types but 2nd (or looked up the list online) play troughs mean your wizard always has all the spells they can cast as soon as they have the skill to do so.

You do NOT need to find scrolls to cast spells. Just figure them out yourself. If Fireburst is top left rune, then what might water be? I figured out 3 or 4 spells before ever finding them, based on the logic behind some of the ones I found. For instance I am using fireball right now, but I don't yet have the scroll.

you know what always bugged me in LoG1 and LoG2?

You make a wizard right?
They have magical skills right?

But they never start with any spells. I guess they just got so badly beaten by the prison guards that they forgot how to cast even the most basic of spells.

Maybe the laws of magic in the mountain/island are different? :D

That's not true. If you character starts with Water 1 & Earth 1 they can cast ice spikes right from the beginning.

Well his core statement is still true there is no pure water spells. So unless you started with other magical skills you would have to wait a level to get a spell. Someone jumping into the game without foreknowledge would have no way to know that of all the elements water can not stand alone.

Honestly cant wait till someone makes a mod that makes it so, the starter magic spells become improved versions or have extra effects once you unlock the maximum level of the skill

It's kind of a bummer, because I didn't know you needed earth magic as well to cast a water spell, especially since I am trying to limit how much I am cheating by not reading about the game as much as I can avoid doing so - want to find out for myself.

So my mage will be useless until he either picks up earth magic and I trial and error and find a water spell or I find a scroll.
