Activating special abilities

Hi all!

I just got my first axe special ability -- "Chop". Do these melee special abilities activate automatically? I see no additional buttons to use them.

Also, I'm on level 3 and I haven't found a bow yet. Kinda frustrating, since I dumped a bunch of points into my rogue's missile weapon skill!

This game is awesome. Almost Human has done a great job.
