Are there accessable areas other than the Ruins of Desarune?

I'm done with the forest and went to Sleet Island and from there to the Ruins of Desarune, since everywhere else I coudln't progress. A hint at the cemetery said that the answer to the puzzle is in the Archives, which are in the Ruins.

Thing is, the ruins are pretty hard for my level/equip and long and I've run out of food, it seems to me that this isn't really the area where I'm supposed to be right now. I've also heard that the game is supposedly much more open, but there doesn't seem to be another area to explore.

Did I miss something in the river area?

Is the "keen eye" puzzle there solvable at this point? (I couldn't figure it out at least)

I believe the keen eye puzzle is solvable for everyone. You just need something to throw and to look around a little if it's the puzzle I'm think of.

Yeah, that's what I thought, but I couldn't find anything. Then again, I don't have particularly keen eyes at all.

My food woes are solved for now since I entered the hamlet and hunted some turtles. Also noticed that some enemies in cleared maps respawn after getting out of the dungeon for now.
