Is it going to be similar to Legend of Grimrock 1? Reason I ask is - I do have a mage in the party, but man - it's a pain! Sometimes, in my haste since battle is happening in real time, and not pausing for me to pick the right spell - I will click the wrong icon (when it's more than one) - and the spell will fizzle (since it's not even an actual spell I am casting in my error!) I wish there was a turn based option for Grimrock - just because of the mage - where combat pauses to allow me to cast the proper spell. As a result, I usually just resort to casting the fire spell over and over and over.

This is by design as far as I know... The point is for it to be a challenge; and perhaps to simulate [a bit] the mage's stress and chance for mistakes when casting on demand in the moment. Imagine if it was not the player's mistake, but that the game randomly decided the spell fizzles.Sir Tawmis wrote:Is it going to be similar to Legend of Grimrock 1? The magic system is basically pretty similar as in LoG1 (rune combination based), but this time the spells are cast by doing a sort of gesture. I'm liking it quite much and you can cast spells pretty quickly and easily (just today I blasted Sand Warg couple of times spot on with fireball. The wargs are super fast).

Like Arx Fatalis? (This being very cool )juho wrote:The magic system is basically pretty similar as in LoG1 (rune combination based), but this time the spells are cast by doing a sort of gesture. Does it work full screen or just over the rune tiles? [Only if that's public of course...]

I am actually used to that annoyance as well! In Realms of Arkania, that's how it worked. The lower the mage's spellcraft skill, the greater the chance of spells fizzling - and it still burned mana when it failed!Isaac wrote: Imagine if it was not the player's mistake, but that the game randomly decided the spell fizzles.
Hah! I don't mind the current LOG1 magic system! (I have that regular fire ball spell memorized!) I have scribbled notes what the other spells are - but I often, frantically, pick the wrong rune (trying to move quickly), or because I am a horrible artist.juho wrote:The magic system is basically pretty similar as in LoG1 (rune combination based), but this time the spells are cast by doing a sort of gesture. I'd say the system is somewhere in the middle between Arx Fatalis and Grimrock 1: now you just draw a line over the rune panel in one sweep instead of clicking individual runes. From what I remember of Arx Fatalis (it's been a LONG time since I played it) I think our new system feels quicker and more precise.Isaac wrote:Like Arx Fatalis? In Arx Fatalis, the player collected runes, and could string them together as spells; Like Grimrock the game had a logic to the combinations, and in Arx the player could deduce undocumented spells by applying that logic... quite similar to the way a player can learn the Light spell in LoG, and guess the dark spell.antti wrote: From what I remember of Arx Fatalis (it's been a LONG time since I played it) I think our new system feels quicker and more precise.
Unlike LoG2 (as seems), the gestures were the runes themselves, not swipes over the rune tiles.

Oh right, that's where the quickness of our new system comes from: each spell is just one gesture.Isaac wrote:In Arx Fatalis, the player collected runes, and could string them together as spells; Like Grimrock the game had a logic to the combinations, and in Arx the player could deduce undocumented spells by applying that logic... quite similar to the way a player can learn the Light spell in LoG, and guess the dark spell.antti wrote: From what I remember of Arx Fatalis (it's been a LONG time since I played it) I think our new system feels quicker and more precise.
