Found this today via reddit, a game called Escape from Dragon Mountain (similar premise to Grimrock obviously). Looks a ton like Grimrock and supposedly had the same lead programmer.

I have tried the demo, and it seems very similar to Grimrock. Same enemies/keyholes/levers/floor switches/trapdoors. Even the teleport field effect is the same. Right click to move camera and attack, same as grimrock. I am just curious if this is just a massive coincidence or if it is indeed the same game.
Can you confirm this was a previous iteration of Grimrock
Re: Can you confirm this was a previous iteration of Grimroc
Yes, this is the same game in a very early stage.
Think that they have been working on this for 10 years!

Just goes to show that persistence and dedication can bring a vision to completion if your dedicated enough and believe in what your doing. Nice history to know.

Re: Can you confirm this was a previous iteration of Grimroc
Well, yes and no. Escape from Dragon Mountain was a hobby project of mine a long time ago. Grimrock was rewritten from scratch starting in spring 2011 and all assets (except for a couple of sound effects) have been made specifically for LoG. I never had a chance to complete EFDM because of lack of time and resources but the idea of making an old school dungeon crawler never died. Naturally there are many similarities in game design because they both are strongly inspired by DM and EOB. But clearly LoG is the brainchild of the entire AH team so it's unfair to say that Grimrock would be an iteration of EFDM.
