Dex for Ranged Rogues?

That fixes it, that being said I've started stand alone so will continue it.petri wrote: Everything should work now. Could you try restarting the steam client, please?

Saves do carry across from standalone to Steam.
Re: Dex for Ranged Rogues?
Hmm, could any of the devs confirm or deny this? Is DEX useless for ranged rogues? If so, I say that it is very counterintuitive...Darklord wrote:Ok I found this so I'm going all Strength, fingers crossed I choose right!
Hmm this also means that Minotaurs make the best ranged characters?petri wrote:Yes.Firing wrote:Does the attack power enhances the damage from a distance with bows and throwed items?

Especially since Missile Weapons upgrades your DEX.
Re: Dex for Ranged Rogues?
Minotaur rogues could be excellent at throwing rocks. Put all points to throwing weapons as you get strength from that skill tree. Then again if you run out of ammo the minotaur is pretty much useless as he can't hit anything with minimized dexterity.
Re: Dex for Ranged Rogues?
That's what I am doing at the moment, in melee combat my back row ranged rogue does WAY more damage with her Legionaries Spear though.

Re: Dex for Ranged Rogues?
Again, we need one of the devs to clarify this, because the only advantage of ranged would be... it being ranged (as in more-than-1-tile-attack). And to me, kind of weird - minotaur, rogue, with ton of muscle, using spear? Re: Dex for Ranged Rogues?
This got me stumped as well, i wanted a rogue in the back with ranged weapons so presumed i would be upping Dexterity, but looking at Petri's reply in the character creation 101 thread he confirmed that Accuracy (which is increased with dex) has no bearing on ranged weapons (just melee)...Darklord wrote:Hey Guys,
Ok stuck already on Character creation! Is deterity pointless for Ranged Rogues? From reading the tooltip I'm wondering if you should instead max Strength?
Cheers,
Daniel.
But Petri then did go on to say attack power (which is increased with Strength) does affect damage done with ranged weapons. So bearing this in mind it would appear a ranged rogue at the back should stack strength not Dexterity. With this in mind it means you would want to favour throwing weapons over missile, because throwing levelling increases strength , and missle weapon levelling increases dexterity.petri wrote:Yeah, there is no accuracy for ranged weapons. We had this at one point but it just wasn't very fun. It seemed very odd when a ranged projectile actually seems to hit a monster but still somehow "miss" it. I believe the reason is because attacking with a ranged weapon feels more like a player skill (aiming at a moving target) while melee is a test of character's skill. As a result ranged attacks tend to hit more often than melee attack and in order to compensate this their damage is generally lower.Lex wrote:BTW: Have you noticed that Accuracy, probably the only(?) skill responsible for being able to hit, is mentioning only melee combat? There is no word about range.. so maybe ranged weapons always hit? I do not know what to think about.. It's kind of mysterious.
Re: Dex for Ranged Rogues?
But then, what is the point of missile weapons? They increase Dex, which is useless, they require both hands (projectile and a tool, such as bow)... Why would you use them, if you can just go for simple rocks or throwing knives? The only advantage are poison arrows, but... really?London Pride wrote:This got me stumped as well, i wanted a rogue in the back with ranged weapons so presumed i would be upping Dexterity, but looking at Petri's reply in the character creation 101 thread he confirmed that Accuracy (which is increased with dex) has no bearing on ranged weapons (just melee)...Darklord wrote:Hey Guys,

Re: Dex for Ranged Rogues?
Yeah, I hate to be "that guy" but this is so fundamental I think we really do need some dev input on this (or I suppose wait a few weeks after people have extensively confirmed via trial and error that a full STR Minotaur warrior is the way to go for ranged while full dex missile weapon characters are essentially gimped).
Would be nicer to have confirmation up-front.
