A Grimrock Fantasy (music inspired by the main theme)

Post by Diarmuid »

Hi all,

Modders around know me for my implication with the modding community in terms of scripting, graphics, and recently leading the ORRR2 project.

But at the heart I am a composer, and had some fun last night with Grimrock's main theme. Here's the result:

And the score in pdf, for the musically inclined and curious:

Enjoy!

I certainly like it, nice work! It sounds almost more "period" if I'm using the right term, like it's almost (my impression at least) something I might hear in medieval times or a fantasy world. It also seems to have a retro-gaming feel at the same time, which was welcome. :)

Very nice Diarmuid. Did you do that on a synthesizer?

Thanks for the comments!

Ryeath_Greystalk, I did the score with Sibelius 7, the notation program, and this is directly the audio rendering made by the software itself using its native sample library. Why it's a little crude.

Of course, for a more serious project, I would export the entire music as midi tracks in an external sequecener and work on it instrument by instrument tweaking details to create an illusion of a real performance.

Thanks for the info. I played around with the demo for Sibelius but opted for Guitar Pro 6, because I felt it had better guitar notation.
