Regarding the new GUI...

Post by Greco »

Hi Petri,

One comment regarding the new GUI. Given that there may be specific modifiers (increasing or decreasing stats) in certain weapons, armors, rings, etc, that change the statistics of those equipping them, It would be nice if the provided tab, has some color indication (for example chnage the white font color) if a stat has been modified due to this. For example if a character has strength 15 and due to modifiers it has been chnaged to 17 (17 could be colored green). If it has been decreased for some reason then the color would be red. Please thibk of it, because it will help a lot to determine items to equip.

I dont know why (forgive) me saying this, but there still no Item Slot for Rings?? Why cant we have a Item slot for Rings you have one for Necklace and one for Braceses.. It would be nice to have Rings in the game..When and if the LOG2 Editor comes out, it would be awesome to make Rings....

I know its hard to code it in but as i said it would have been awesome to include..

I still like the new GUI...Good job Petri, awesome....

PS: Will there be a way to create Items eg: To make a dagger you need handle + blade etc....

@Greco: Yes, this is something that has crossed my mind. Right now it's not possible to separate "natural stat upgrades" from item stat bonuses, so this has not been implemented yet.

We have not been too keen on implementing rings, because they are awfully small on the floor and can be lost in floor cracks and other geometry.

I like the look of the new GUI so far, nice! I'm happy to see the most useful info staying at the top, above the tabs.

I'm curious how the casting runes will work if the mage will also wield a weapon?

You could have rings but if the player tries to place the ring on the ground or alcove or anywhere, it just vanishes and a message pops up that the ring got lost in a small crevice!

They could glare once in a while. Or perhaps shine if you use strong light source nearby.

Excellent idea with the texture atlas. Does it mean that a modder will be able to re-skin the GUI, like more mystery/horror oriented (I'm secretly hoping for a lovecraft-style mod) or sci-fi themed?

How do you cast spell with the new rune system? You mark the runes and then what? Is it possible to have the spell prepared (runes selected), but not cast it yet? Whatever you come up with, please make sure that the following 2 are possible. First, have a spell prepared, ready for easy cast. Second, have the ability to change the prepared spell to something else, e.g. wanted to cast fireball, but the monster is fire resistant, so I want to cast iceshards instead.

Moddable races is a fantastic news!

I love the mossy green spots here and there. I'm hoping to see damp, wet, mossy, swampy levels, perhaps partially flooded. LOG1 levels were too.. dry.

Oh, and I see that the round decoration next to rest button is now gone. That's a useful. Some modders would like to put extra buttons there, e.g. for quest log, a map or a diary.

About rings there are different options:

- You can put on boxes, sacks, chests, alcove...on this places have more visibility. If player drop a ring on a place with poor visibility... next time be more careful. Also in real life if a ring are on the floor not always you can see it well.

- You can do big rings on the floor, only with visibility purposes. Like bracers, necklaces or keys. Big, not giant!! ;)

- You can do normal rings on the floor, if you can see it... it's really fun because seems a secret. A few rings hidden on different places of the game sounds good or simply on the floor waiting a player can see it.

- Or simply no rings on game

About GUI:

- I really like it. More functional and nice.

- About specific modifiers you can do something like portraits. Rectangle inventory change color if you have a good or curse item which modify your stats and by hovering you can see it. Anyway greco's option is good for me too because it's the natural place to show it.
