Mapping question
Mapping question
I know this has probably been asked before, but where should we start mapping if we are doing it ourselves? I don't want to have to redo it, and I want all the levels to line up correctly.
Re: Mapping question
The dev's have stated that the first level starts top left of the grid. Maybe not the first square, but in that area.

Keep in mind that it's almost inevitable you'll have to re-do some areas eventually due to teleports.
It is my intention that when I go through a teleporter, I will start on a new "scrap" sheet of paper which I will later copy onto my main sheet once I've determined where this new area lies.
Re: Mapping question
Ah yes, good point about teleports, didn't think about that. This will be my first attempt at hand mapping outside of a game. I love the Etrian Odyssey games, but those have the advantage of telling you where you are on the map at any given time.
Re: Mapping question
Yep, and if those areas never connect in any other way, you may never be able to tell where they are relative to each other. So you may wind up with 3 or even more separate areas on a level that you have no way to orient to each other. Since we know that all levels fit in the same grid though, you'll eventually once they are all fully mapped be able to "fit" them onto one sheet even though you may not have their proper X,Y coordinates correct.brick wrote:Ah yes, good point about teleports, didn't think about that. Re: Mapping question
I am planning to map but not knowing where to roughly start on the graph paper is a pain.
I've already gone wrong twice (on first page, then second page to contain offshoot from first page but started to close to the edge)! This is tricky
