Races and levelling

Post by Crashone »

Hi,

First of all, thanks for making an old dream came true with legend of Grimrock.

A question about races and classes:
if I choose an human to make a mage, will he evolve differently than an insectoid when levelling?
Will an insectoid be as powerfull as a minotaur at lvl 50?
In other words, is there a link between race and classes?

thanks in advance for your answer.

Welcome! Take a look here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=360 :)
Race defines starting attributes and for some classes it would be good to have some attibutes higher than others.

As far as I'm aware, race just dictates your base stats at character creation as well as any race-specific traits you can acquire at startup.

Maybe it'll have some bearing on the storyline or gameplay, like in Eye of the Beholder how you couldn't read the dwarven writing on the wall without a dwarf.

Ah, yes, I forgot about race-specific traits also. :)

Thanks for such quick anwers.
It's clearer now.
In fact, I'd hope that I could replace the insectoid race with another, because I don't like bugs that much.
Obviously it won't be a good idea.

Once custom portraits are added import a picture of an Elf and use that with the Insectoid race, they share similar traits anyhow (eat less, good with magic etc)

I plan to do the same to add a Dwarf to the game. :)

I refuse to use a bug so I will make a Human Mage regardless of the stat hit. I may use a Lizard for a Rogue but no bugs!

Perhaps the planned editor will offer a way to edit or add races in the future. That would be great, imagine all the different dungeons that could come out of that.

Plus, depending how flexible the editor is maybe we'll even get a sci-fi dungeon of sorts :o
