Favorite old school RPG's

Quake, Doom and Hexen/Heretic are my top 3 favourite games! You could consider Quake similar to an RPG, Hexen/Heretic is definitely RPG! Doom's a full on FPS.

My favorite old school RPGs are

- Fates - Gates of Dawn

- of course Dungen Master with his expansion Chaos strikes back

- Eye of the Beholder 1 and 2

- and my first dungeon crawler Sword and Serpents on the NES.

Hexen: Beyond Heretic, now that's a great game!
Hexen 2 is also a good game.
Have you heard that there's a team of Hexen fans making a new Hexen game?
It's called Hexen: Edge of Chaos and it's currently a mod for Doom 3 but
they are working hard to make it a stand-alone game

EDIT: I'd consider Hexen more as a hack 'n' slash game with puzzle elements than a role-playing game since the character doesn't really gain experience.

Doom, Hexen and Heretic weren't RPGs! They were all great games, but every single one of them was an FPS.

Every single one of those is fantastic, and a favorite of mine; but I would not consider any of them RPGs.

1 Dungeon Master II, hours of training, training, training in all skills to archmaster (all characters had a gray beard to his waist after that) played 4x
2 Lands of Lore 1, played 3x
3 Eye of the Beholder 1,2,3 played 1x
4 Stonekeep, played 3x
5 Arx fatalis, played 2x
6 Cardhalia, played 1x
7 Brany skeldalu played 1x

and StarWars KOTOR 1 and KOTOR 2 very good games!

i am too a big fan of

1 - Fate - Gates of dawn (amiga exclusive), best rpg ever (for me), those who don't know it definetly missed something
2 - Captive anyone ? everybody missed this one
3 - Black Crypt (best dungeon crawler)
