The riddles are in the style of the ancient Anglo Saxon riddles. They were often bawdy, and sounded naughty, when in reality they refered to every day items. In the case of the Library you need the book, the key, and the light.
If I could find a good way to provide multiple language translations for the riddles I would.
The style of your riddles, along with all the storyline, is great. It always sounds good to me, since I have some knowledge of English (and I like to improve it while playing). The density of all the text is quite unique in the Grimrock modding (at least the part of it that I've seen). I would surely not ask you to change anything about it!

But the reward at the end of the Halls is worth the effort. Also, I can name at least several other dungeons where consumables are used to unlock doors and secrets. But like I said before, I'm always open to suggestions on improving the dungeon.
Yes, I've been stuck in other mods because of that, or because of random items looking useless where they can be found and suddenly appearing as quest items after several hours and no possible backtracking... Well, I guess that if you provided enough of these items in levels 5 and 6, everything's ok. (Actually I had only one of both the consumable at the time I did that part, and felt lucky...)
