Technically, they didn't really die out- but they sure became more rare.
There are still dungeon crawlers released to this day, for example the Wizardry series is still getting titles in Japan, the west is getting translations of the Etrian Oddysey games, and the infamous Demons/Dark Souls games are spiritual sequels to the King's Field series- themselves being directly inspired by Ultima Underworld.

I would be grateful if you tell us when and where we can order this masterpiece. In fact, it will be a masterpiece, I'm sure!

I was a bit disappointed to see the choice of realitme combat instead of a roguelike system because of the characters moving in steps instead of real free roaming exploration, but I'm getting over that as april approaches. However, in the meantime I was wondering if anyone out there could recommend a newer 3D dungeon crawl that is "turn based"? A great example would be Orcs and Elves on the DS, but something on the pc. I've played the hell out of eye of the beholder and and all the older ones, realtime or not. Anyone know of some good 3D turn based crawls I've missed?

Well, you can always emulate the DS series' Etrian Oddysey. I heard they're a great twist on the Wizardry genre of crawlers.

I'm feeding my need for now playing an oldie that is being revamped - Demise (now Ascension) and a few other games, but I cannot wait for this to release!

Be warned though: it's notorious for it's difficulty :)

Good afternoon there,

just want to say I am really looking forward to this game . When my Girlfriend told me about this ( she is Finnish ) I was like : yeah sure hun .

Then I saw screenshots and the trailer and I was hooked : AGAIN

Why again ? I played the original Dungeon <Master and Chaos Strikes Back games in the late 80's early 90's.

T H I S game will be by far THE most interesting game this year. And it already has my vote for game of the year.

So happily awaiting the pre order ( if there is one ) in Holland :D

Kind regards and thumbs up
