There are six pressure plates. Three of them open things and three of them close them again. You just need to find out which plate opens/closes what and then work around the plates that close things.

Due to distance you can't always hear what opens but you can always hear what closes.

Still not seeing it, sorry. I can't seem to get a screenshot of the map, so you'll have to settle for this crummy hand-drawn one:
SpoilerShow
Image
Plate 1 opens B
Plate 2 opens A
Plate 3 closes ???
Plate 4 closes B
Plate 5 closes A
Plate 6 opens ???

I can't get from 1 to B without stepping on 4.
I can't get from 2 to A without stepping on 5.
I step on 6 and run all over the place, but I can't find what it opens.

What am I missing?

nice map, but not entirely accurate: it misses a corridor leading from 1 to the south passing by 3.
Numberouane gave the right hint here.

Plate 1 opens B -> aye, B is to the east, but are you sure it's placed correctly on your map?
Plate 2 opens A -> correct
Plate 3 closes ??? -> when stepping on it facing north you should see a door ...
Plate 4 closes B -> are you sure about the location of B? Re-check/re-listen by steping on it facing east
Plate 5 closes A -> correct
Plate 6 opens ???

I can't get from 1 to B without stepping on 4. -> see my note on plate 1
I can't get from 2 to A without stepping on 5. -> are you sure you need to go there?
I step on 6 and run all over the place, but I can't find what it opens. -> see my note on plate 3

I'm stuck as well, on level 4 (Pyramid Base I think).
SpoilerShow
There is a demon head, three pressure plates, a receptor, a crab behind a gate and an alcove on the other side of a pit with a key and some other stuff inside. Plus a scroll that says something like 'the light of truth opens this bla bla'. One pressure plate lets the demon head fire a blob spell when I step on it and it hits the receptor, but nothing happens. The other plate fires a lightning spell (which also hits the receptor), but again nothing happens. This plate can also be activated by items. The third plate...does nothing. I tried to fire the two spells in close succession by firing an arrow at one plate and stepping on the blob plate as quick as possible, but that didn't work either. No idea what to do here.

-> Have you been beside the receptor when the blob hit it?

The other plate fires a lightning spell (which also hits the receptor), but again nothing happens.
-> Wasn't a crab crawling there?

This plate can also be activated by items.
-> All three plates can be activated by the party, items and ... ;)

The third plate...does nothing.
-> Oh something does happen but you are too far away to notice.
-> With plate 2 and 3 being located beside each other and the hint above this can be solved together ;)

Ok, got the items from the alcove now, thanks!
SpoilerShow
Ran around for quite a while without seeing a monster so I thought they wouldn't respawn, that's why I didn't think about trapping one. But I'm still stuck anyway. I have now three keys (ornate, golden and brass) and a blue gem, but no doors or demon heads to use them on. It's been a while since I started playing the mod, but the only lock I could find was in the corridor with all the trapped skeletons one level below, which apparently requires a gear key.

Still don't know what the third plate does either, I trapped a scavenger inside the room and ran around everywhere on that level without finding anything. Trapped a scavenger in both rooms and apart from blob and lighting madness nothing happened.

-> Already? This area is one of the first being reachable right after the start. Obviously you did the Gladiator Challenge and the Gauntlet, otherwise you won't have an ornate key yet. Since you can't go up anywhere perhaps exploring further down will help?

-> The demon head for the gems shows up on level 3.
-> Ornate keys are required at the top of the pyramid. Save them for later.
-> Brass keys unlock something in lower catacombs and then it will be pretty obvious what gold keys are for.
-> The Undead Army Reserve is released with a prison key and the usual greed for experience once let me use the only key :roll:

Still don't know what the third plate does either, I trapped a scavenger inside the room and ran around everywhere on that level without finding anything. Trapped a scavenger in both rooms and apart from blob and lighting madness nothing happened.

-> The room with the single plate only triggers lightning to add some ouch! into the blob's path.
-> A scavenger in the room with 2 plates is enough. That way you got the blob traveling from south to north into it's receptor triggering the pit and a lightning bolt traveling from west to east hitting .. a wall? ;)
Then everything you can do there now is done.

:? Sorry, Doc, none of what you say is matching up with what I'm seeing. I think I'm just gonna give this one a pass. If I'm this screwed up on the first level, this probably isn't the mod for me. Thanks to everyone who tried to help.
