Party I beat the game with:

Minotaur Fighter - Axes - Full Armour
Human Fighter - Swords - Full Armour - Potion Maker
Human Rogue - Throwing - Daggers (once she got reach)
Human Mage - Fire Magic - Air Magic

I don't know why I made my fighter the potion maker but it came in handy in one part where I was surrounded by a ton of monsters with no place to retreat to. Everyone else died but I was able to hunker down in a corner, leaving his inventory window open so he could make potions in the middle of the fight when needed. It took quite a while but it felt pretty good when he eventually emerged victorious. The downside was that he used up all of the healing flowers in the fight (I think I had about 17 before the fight) so I had to be a bit more careful until I finally got some more.

2nd Party just started:

Human Fighter - Maces - Full Armour
Human Rogue - Unarmed - Evasion
Lizardman Rogue - Missile Weapons
Insectoid Mage - Earth Magic - Ice Magic

I've finished game for the first time with this party:
Image
Human Rogue - backstabber armed with dagger, points in Assassination, Dodge and Daggers
Lizardman Rogue - martial artist, all points in Unarmed
Minotaur Rogue - axe thrower, all points in Throwing Weapons
Insectoid Mage - mainly utility freezer and light provider, points in Ice Magic/Air Magic and Spellcraft

And here's my second party, who have recently left Grimrock:
Image
Human Rogue - master of evasion, 24 in Dodge, 32 in Unarmed (Evasion = 119)
Insectoid Mage - tank mage, arrows enchanter, light provider and utility freezer - 8 point is Spellcraft, 13 in Ice Magic, rest goes to Staff Defence.
Minotaur Rogue - axe thrower, all points in Throwing Weapons. I've enjoyed this one so much, that I've decided to copy/paste it ;-)
Human Rogue - marksman, all points in Missile Weapons.

I really have to try at least one Fighter next time...

Lizard rogue - Assassination, daggers, dodge. Agile, poison resistant.
Lizard rogue - Thrown, unarmed, dodge. Agile, evasive.
Insect mage - Air magic, earth magic, spellcraft. Skilled, strong mind.
Insect mage - Fire magic, ice magic, spekllcraft. Skilled, strong mind.

Playing it without the map and making my own. It`s a bit masochistic and you need to put out torches while you`re doing it, if you want light later. But it`s still a great option and takes me right back to the good old days:) Oh and I had to restart because my e/a mage got me stuck on skeletons because he just had a poison spell on the first go. Got the simple electricity attack asap on go two, and it was pretty easy.
