Games similar to LoG? (thoughtful puzzles, secrets)
Hey! I just finished Legend of Grimrock for the first time...thought I would make a post here.
For me, the aspect of LoG that defines it is its puzzles and secrets. I am wondering if anyone would have any games to recommend that perhaps incorporate similar elements.
The Myst series come to mind for me.

I would look toward the survival horror genre, which tends to be very heavily filled with puzzles, rooms to explore, and secrets. I specifically recommend the Penumbra series. Penumbra has a lot of rather difficult puzzles that you have to think cleverly about how to solve and it has a lot of the exploring an abandoned underground place feeling to it. Make sure you start with the first one Penumbra: Overture. I want to warn you though that the game is rather scary, so if you can't take scary games, then it probably isn't the best for you.
As for games that play the same way as Grimrock...in that case, unless you want to look toward the old games, there really isn't a whole lot out there.

Among older games, the "Eye of the Beholder" and "Dungeon Master" series have essentially the same style of gameplay. The "Ultima Underworld" series also uses the same concepts in a 3D environment.
I know that the Ultima Underworld games are available on GoG. I don't think they have EoB or DM at this time, though.
Edit: Nope, no EoB or DM at GoG, but here's the link for Ultima Underworld: http://www.gog.com/gamecard/ultima_underworld_1_2
I don't use Steam enough to know whether any of them are available there.

Older games are strongly recommended
To get easy access to Dungeon Master and Chaos Strikes Back:
http://dmweb.free.fr/
DM and CSB have great puzzles and are still fun !
CSB is kind of hard (monsters and puzzles) - so if you survived DM with a great party do CSB.
Other games may used via Dos-Box or AMIGA emulator:
Eye of the Beholder (1,2,3), Xenomorph, Lands of Lore, Dungeon Master 2, Black Crypt, Anvil of Dawn
These games have the same style of gameplay like Grimrock.

Highly recommend Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos. In the re-released CD version, Patrick Stewart reads the role of King Richard!

I'll also highly recommend it; it's a fantastic example of the classic dungeon-crawler.Duncan_B wrote:Highly recommend Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos. In the re-released CD version, Patrick Stewart reads the role of King Richard!

*And King Richard was pretty cool.
Stone Prophet was also good IMO; but it's not on GoG yet ~though it's listed three times in their lists; but all votes combined is less than 600 votes.
That's not coming around anytime soon.
*Who would ever have expected to find this uploaded in August 2012?
