[TOOLS] Adobe Creative Suite 2 Free Download

Post by Leki »

Adobe today released for free private/comercial use FULL (no trial or other limits) version of theirs graphisc software
Adobe Creative Suite 2. Page is overloaded atm - you have to try it more times - just create free acount, confirm email and then download.

Adobe Photoshop is best tool for textures, Adobe Premiere for cinematics etc... You can download full package (CS2) or programs one by one.

Link is here: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlemen ... ads&loc=en

Edit:
Support for DDS format - just instal nvidia tools plugin into photoshop: https://developer.nvidia.com/nvidia-tex ... -photoshop Then just "Save as DDS".
You can also create perfect normalmaps using 2nd nVidia tool Filters --> nVidia Tools --> Generate normalmaps from your texture by one click - just dont forget to check "invert y axe" checkbox before generating. Its really easy and very powerfull tool.

hmm, still down. CS2 is getting long in the tooth, but I wonder if it perhaps (probably) still compares favorably to recent GIMP

I still use PS CS2 - not sure what I would be missing (i haven't used more recent versions) but GIMP is a learning curve for me - I really use it to import and export - perhaps new versions of PS convert and read .dds ?

PS CS2 can read and convert dds, all you need is the nVidia dds plugin (and if I'm not mistaken you need the plugin for any PS version, no matter how new it is).

Just as a reminder that, even though Adobe doesn't really seem to care that much, they are not handing out free software per se. This download is intended for existing customers since they had to turn off the license servers for some of their old products. Here's a quote from an Adobe rep on their forums:
Effective December 13, Adobe disabled the activation server for CS2 products and Acrobat 7 because of a technical glitch. These products were released over 7 years ago and do not run on many modern operating systems. But to ensure that any customers activating those old versions can continue to use their software, we issued a serial number directly to those customers. While this might be interpreted as Adobe giving away software for free, we did it to help our customers.
It's possible that they will still clarify their official stance on this later.

Yup. http://www.forbes.com/sites/adriankings ... -for-free/

On the other hand, there is readme with terms of use in the CS2 pack and there is nothing about that.
Is on the page something like "Dont download if you are not our customers"? No.
Adobe published serial numbers for CS2 products officially. No leak of page hack etc.

It means, that "official status" is: "While this might be interpreted as Adobe giving away software for free, we did it to help our customers."
etc... but Adobe probably does not take care if you download CS2 and you become their customer after this

Adobe page is down again... I have my official CS3 so it is not important for me, but it sounds like good idea to follow their forum in next few hours: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1114930? ... 0&tstart=0

My take is that Adobe cuts it's entire support for CS2.
Reason: Apple has already cut it's support for all PowerPC stuff out there a while ago so no software developer incl. Adobe will get PPC support anymore.

CS2 is PowerPC-only on Macs which means you need to have a Mac with a G3, G4 or G5 PPC CPU plus an appropriate (older) OS X version to run it. Yet windows users looking for a CS benefit from Adobe's move.
