[Linux] No text input

OK here is a weird issue I'm having. My keyboard works fine for moving around etc, but I can't input any text for save games or for name input.

I have to rely on the name generator and all my save games are listed as (no description). The only thing I can offer is my keyboard is an old IBM Model-M with a ps/2 interface.
