had exactly the same problem and solved it another way, i went into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\legend of grimrock\vcredist then all you have to do is open the file in there 'vcredist_x86'. This then extracts the files and installs something to do with Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86, I can't say exactly what. Its now working for me, hope this will help others
