External 'shell' environment

Post by Ahmyo »

I was thinking, with the addition of the dungeon editor and the new player-made maps, there should be a way to share these maps with friends who don't own the game, to not only show them what you have made, but to also possibly get them interested in the game, and purchase it. Would creating a limited external game shell, which would only be able to play through a single map; the one you've created, with no other features such as the editor and main story, be considered a good idea? Or would it be considered money lost? I just think it would be a nice way to gain attention to the game. OR maybe you could charge your friends like .99c for your single run map? Or maybe more, and the map creator could get a portion of whats made from the purchase, with the rest to the devs? Ideas

Grimrock is already very reasonably priced and there are sometimes insane sales (like 3EUR on steam some time ago). If you want to convince your friends that the game is awesome and for some reason they don't believe reviews or the youtube movies don't appeal to them), just tell them how was your experience with the game.
