All Fighter Party

Post by Rorrik »

Well, if not all party, then a no magic party. Assuming there are no puzzles that magic is needed to solve it seems plausible to confront the dungeon with only fighters because according to the game manual weapons with reach can attack from the back of the party. With each skeleton warrior giving you a spear and a shield, an all fighter party could emulate the skeleton warrior phalanx formation and have major potential, though definitely more challenging (and less interesting) than having magic in the group.

Thoughts?

I think it's going to depend a lot on how resurrection works. If it's 99% a mage cast then I'd say it would be very hard, almost like playing through with permadeath.

Additionally, I think that you're going to limit yourself in the amount and types of items you can grab. Since the drops aren't random, I'm sure they've included a set amount for each class. While a warrior may be able to wear robes, they won't help much in defense....so by the end of the game you'll have a couple warriors in "sub-par" armor and weapons for the level.

That being said, it would be an interesting mix since you could rotate your front fighters to the back when they get injured to keep fighting. I think you could more easily kill things in a single battle without luck or retreating, however your overall time would take longer due to the constant need to rest and heal. All hypothetical, it will depend on how healing and magic work when the game comes out.

Interesting, although I'd probably try 2F/2R first if I were going for a "no magic".

Would just give you more flexibility in the type of loot you could use to maximum effect.

I was actually thinking about doing this at some point. The main thing holding me back was the fact that the ones in the back would be doing nothing, but I completely forgot about spears. :P

They can use ranged weapons too, they just don't get any class skills to specialize in them.

If you get 12 points in Assassination with your Rogue, you can attack with daggers from the back row just fine.

This I did not know, that makes the rogue pretty cool.

As for resurrection, I'm pretty sure its not a caster thing but a part of the game environment, like the resurrection table in Dungeon Master II or something like that. My only worry is there may be puzzles that require spells.
