FTL (faster than light) games
FTL (faster than light) game company created the original Dungeon Master. The also created two other games that I loved bak in the late 80's and I'm curious if others in this forum also enjoyed them.
"Sundog Frozen Legacy" and "Oids" -- these two, along with "Dungeon Master" took up so much of my free time.
I would love to see both of these games updated to today's graphical standard. I know there was an attempt to recreate "Sundog" and there have been other "cave flyers" but the depth and style were very important.

Funny, I just discovered this game yesterday. Looks interesting, and it resembles the shipboard component of Sundog. Does it have a full galaxy with dozens of planets and even more cities to explore?

Im not entirely sure how deep the exploration aspect of the game is, i get the feeling you go in orbit around planets and interact with the inhabitants via the ship only. Someone needs to do a variation of elite when you can land and interact with different civilizations like star trek, that would be my ultimate game i think, however i think it would have to rely on procedural generation like elite. What caught my eye was how aesthetically similar the ship view point was to sundog, if its a comparably similar gameplay wise remains to be seen!

This FTL site has nothing to do with the original FTL company

Well I assumed that since the developers looked like they might not have even been born in the 80s

I am aware of the facts. FTL software used to be located on Lusk Ave. near my house, here in San Diego.
I started this thread because I felt that FTL had produced 3 video game gems, back in a time when the market was not flooded, as it is today.
If anyone remembers or does not but is just curious, google both "OIDS" and "SUNDOG FROZEN LEGACY". there are numerous good sites about them.

Well, Star Control II is close to that. Planet landings, Space Duels, interacting with great aliens, a star trek kinda feel. And its been free to play for awhile as 'The Ur-Quan Masters'.Codpiece of Doom wrote:Someone needs to do a variation of elite when you can land and interact with different civilizations like star trek, that would be my ultimate game i think,

Luther1964 I wanted to tell you about a game we had here in the uk that had a similar inertia style control to oids, it was released in 1986 the year before oids but im not sure if it was an influence or not. Might be fun for you to try under emulation.
