Who Knows?
Who Knows?
Not long now for us old hands (and new ) to get a grip of a modern call back to a genre' that has great memories for us.
The site here is littered with old titles we all loved (insert your fave) and I won't repost all those great titles again.
The developers have brought us a modern example of an old and well tested and tried genre in gaming a heck of a lot of us have played over the years and we salute you for that. At 56 y.o. myself I have fond memories of spending countless areas mapping out and fighting my way through many a Dungeon. So Grimrock is something I am looking forward to with great relish as I know from the posts on site, many more dungeon crawlers from the old school and many younger potential crawlers also are waiting with bated breath and great excitment. Thanks Again for this.
I, and I am sure many more hold a secret hope. that Grimrock will be very successful and spark follow up dungeons not only from the developers, (ie continue the story and make it serial in the new land created, but also maybe encourage other developers to jump on the success of the game (As I am sure it IS going to be successfull) and help re-awaken development in the genre'.
Two game genre' dear to my heart are the Dungeon Crawler and games like Elite, Freespace and that ilk.
Some games do get slowly developed over time in the space genre' but games like EOB, Dungeon Master and more have been slow to make a comeback.
So let us all hope that Grimrock will show the industry through sales or plain old enthusiastic reviews and comments from players will spur on further development of Dungeon Crawlers to come.
Thank you Almost Human Ltd for being brave enough to re-awaken the Dungeon Crawler in a style of old with modern tech and players in mind. Salute and good luck.

^agree with all the above.
The dungeon crawler genre has been awakened for us and brought into today's era thanks to Almost Human.

Re: Who Knows?
Elite was fantastic! Played that game for years. Remember the dreaded Thargoids? They were so badass they had their fear glands removed. Good times!Anaraavi wrote:Two game genre' dear to my heart are the Dungeon Crawler and games like Elite, Freespace and that ilk
Re: Who Knows?
The Dungeon Crawler genre was not absolutely dead all these years, because there was (and is) Demise - Rise of the Ku'tan, the most obscure of them all:

Re: Who Knows?
Well said, I have missed the old school games and many have become harder to replay with each new windows version release. Now to have my old school, with better graphics and made to run on modern day computers?!? Color me in!

Re: Who Knows?
Over past few years graphics was most important element of the game. They were selling graphics, tons of dialogues and cutscenes, nothing more...
Then they have told us PC games have no future - because noone intelligent buys that crap any more.
They told us "piracy"... yeah, but there was nothing worth buying!
Yesterday, I have met old friend from highschool and told him about the game - he preordered instantly with his iPad after seeing one video and screenshots.

Re: Who Knows?
Most of the people on this forum don't know Japan makes video games I think. But yeah you are correct. The last 4 dungeon crawlers I played were all made in Japan and all came out in the last 5 years.EtrianO wrote:...Japan says "hello"?Mychaelh wrote:The Dungeon Crawler genre was not absolutely dead all these years, because

Hey now, it's never fair to generalize, Karkarov. I like Japanese games just as much as western games, and I'm sure a bunch of other people here do too.
...at least, I think so.

Do you have any tips for Japanese dungeon crawlers? (translated ones)EtrianO wrote:...Japan says "hello"?
