I am running into this error when I try that fix:
"A newer version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable has been detected on the machine."

not sure, but maybe try 32 bit version or 64 bit version, or find a download that will install anyway, or uninstall first, or try direct x first

Hey, I have installed the fix. But, still there is no change at all. Can somebody help here please. I really want to play this game. grimrock.exe is appearing in the task manager for a moment and then disappears!

If Grimrock starts successful to some point, it should generate some error logfile in your personal folder, should be called error.log
For my GOG grimrock the path is: \My Documents\Almost Human\Legend of Grimrock, steam layout should by similar. (or just search your PC for grimrock.cfg)

Execute both the DirectX setup and Visual C++ redistributale delivered with the game manually. Find them by right-clicking the game's entry in your library. There select "Properties". In the property popup goto the tab "Local Files" and click "Browse Local Files...". An explorer window will open taking you to the game's installation folder. There goto both the folders "DirectX" and "vcredist" and execute the setup respectivly EXE you find there. After both is done try to start the game.

If the game still does not start check your personal "My Documents" folder. As badhabit described above the game has created a folder there for all it's savegames, custom maps+portraits, the config file and the error log. Check if there is an error.log and if so post it here. You can also try to reset the game's configuration to file avoid any invalid settings by deleting the grimrock.cfg file.
