Yes, I know, but as I said - it is only way to provide translated game to other ppl. Not everybody is able to play in english. And making string table in separated lua file and create any "Localize" function in other script is really not so hard. It is not perfect, but better than nothing. Now there is mod community, Steam Workshop support and still no easy way how to translate it. It is bad.petri wrote:Translating the game by modifying the dat file is a bad idea. Re: Legend of Grimrock DAT File Extractor
Localization is a lot more work than remapping text: font system has to support unicode, fonts have to contain extra glyphs, all texts would have to be collected from code files, texts would have to removed from textures, gui layout has to cope with longer text, translating the text, retranslate/add new translations when text changes. Some of these things could probably be outsourced or crowd sourced but it would still be time off from making other cool stuff. We have discussed localization here more than once but so far we have been too busy with other stuff. Being indie we don't have the luxury of big studios.Raptor wrote:Yes, I know, but as I said - it is only way to provide translated game to other ppl. Not everybody is able to play in english. yeah, launch it, and get fucked. Nice move, hacker...
A trip of a thousand leagues starts with a step.
Re: Legend of Grimrock DAT File Extractor
One nasty side effect of a dat extractor, would seem to be that with that tool easily available, all modders who work to create new and interesting content for the player community, could [would] have their hard work dissected and ripped off by any who choose to... Unless one can write such a tool themselves, the likelihood that they will respect anothers work once they acquire the 'point & click' means to steal it [for free and without personal consequence] is pretty close to nil.Raptor wrote:Just to let you know, my tool is updated to support the latest version. Use it, or let it be. Your choice
It's enough to stop many from ever releasing their [now strictly for private use] mods to anyone but close personal friends ~who won't upload them.
