I need to try whatever this is, because if it's what i think it is, it's exactly an idea I had and was wondering if it would be possible to pull off.

yeah, I guess it's really just a "map", since minimap usually refers to a HUD thing. For a while I pined for a HUD minimap, but now I'm glad there isn't one, better for immersion (in fact, I wish I could set the player portraits and weapons to be partially transparent)
