Nothing Happens on Startup [Steam]

So, I just bought LoG and it downloaded fine but as soon as I try and start it up NOTHING happens, steam says i'm in a game, says i've last played this today but the game itself hasnt started and I get no sort of error message of any kind.

Does anyone have any ideas?Sorry for the lack of information but I don;t have any to give

You meet the system requirements and all the software installed ok? You could try verifying the game files by right clicking on the games name in the Steam Library then select > Properties > Local files > Verify integrity of game cache. If that doesn't work perhaps deleting the local game content and re-downloading?

is grimrock.exe running in task manager when you launch it? or does it appear and disappear really fast?

It does appear for a moment

Same for me, it shows up for a second and then steam says it's syncronizing like when you close the game

I believe I might be able to help - I bought the game today having only discovered it due to the 50% offer being posted elsewhere. Glad I did, spent a few enjoyable hours this afternoon once I'd overcome this problem.

I also had nothing happening when trying to start through Steam (well, the steam loading game dialog box popped up momentarily).

I decided to give the standalone version a go instead. It didn't work either, but more helpfully, gave me an error message about a d3d component. I therefore ran the direct x installed from the MS website which offered to install some optional components. I went ahead.

Launching the standalone game again now works. I've not tried Steam again but I'm assuming this was the same issue.

(Slightly strange as although I don't game much, I've used the PC for other games such as Skyrim without issue. I guess the game is looking for a specific version of something which wasn't there before).

An additional heads up if you use an ATI graphics card... ensure that the options for Anti Aliasing are set to "use in game preferences" rather than being forced on in Catalyst Control Centre, otherwise you'll see nothing but darkness when you try and play the game!
